Dear all,

We have built our house. It is more or less finished, but the final inspection has not yet taken place.

Lately, we have been spending more time in the house since we are doing the wall coverings ourselves. Now to the problem: since the weather has gotten warmer, we often have the windows open, and from time to time there has been a strong sewage odor on the upper floor. We have now discovered that the toilet and bathtub are not vented through the roof, but through the wall, and the unpleasant smell comes exactly from there. This affects all rooms on the upper floor on that side of the house, including the bedroom. In summer, I usually have the window open. Honestly, I do not know how to tolerate this smell on a long-term basis.

According to the builder, venting it this way is acceptable.

Is that correct? Is there anything that can be done to get rid of this smell?

Best regards and many thanks

You can probably extend that all the way up to the roof. It just won’t look very appealing and will seem like an add-on.
