briefly and to the point: Can you recommend a robotic vacuum cleaner?

Is the Roomba the only option, or are there other devices around 500€ (about $540) that also do a good job?

Xiaomi Mi iRobot, robotic vacuum cleaner

They all vacuum. However, the difference becomes clear in the software. The higher the quality of the robot vacuum, the more precisely it navigates and the better it handles higher edges.

We have the Kobold from Vorwerk and are very satisfied. The only downside we noticed is that it doesn't pick up sand (from a small child) very well.

The best one available so far is the Xiaomi Mi Vacuum. It maps rooms using laser scanning and follows the cleaning plan very precisely. In addition, it has the highest suction power of all. There's no comparison to the overpriced market leaders; it outperforms them all, and at a great price!

For example, I wasn’t satisfied with it. Since our little one keeps moving the furniture around, it couldn’t handle that at all.
Also, it doesn’t reliably pick up pet hair.
There were many corners it couldn’t clean properly, partly due to its shape.

It's hard to believe that he can't handle rearranged furniture, since the Xiaomi scans the room anew on every run. I would rather suspect user error... And it deals perfectly fine with our cat hair. By the way, it can also do wet mopping...
