Hello,

Is it possible to use the existing heating oil tank as a diesel tank? Is a permit/planning permission required? And is it possible to get approval? The heating oil tank is already installed flood-proof in a flood-prone area. Thank you.

Diesel does not burn. It also does not explode. You can even extinguish a burning match with it.

I know, that’s why I drive a gasoline car!
But seriously, you can’t store 6 liters (about 1.6 gallons) of diesel as fuel—who would fill it, how do you refuel? Environmental impact? etc. And again: it still represents a fire load.

And by the way: if diesel really did not burn at all, that would be very dangerous for many people.

Diesel ignites under pressure, not from sparks. Therefore, the liquid itself is not considered a fire hazard. Since heating oil has been classified as non-flammable, the requirement for fire extinguishers in homes with oil heating was also removed in 2018. The pressure needed to cause a diesel explosion is unlikely to be applied to the tank.

Despite the technical safety, I would be very surprised if anyone would approve this.

Have the tank removed and use the gained space for something more useful.
