Dear forum community,
Unfortunately, I discovered today that someone has urinated in a corner of my newly built apartment. This is not the first issue of this kind; for instance, urine and even feces have been found before in a cellar and a storage room belonging to another buyer.
The urine is clearly visible on the wall, on the perimeter insulation strip, and to some extent (though not excessively) on the screed. However, I am concerned that urine may have penetrated beneath the screed and into the EPS insulation boards, since there is a small gap between the perimeter insulation strip and the wall exactly where the urine ran down.
What kind of problems could arise now? Unpleasant odors, mold, or something else? What actions should be taken at this point?
Best regards

In another forum, architects and others are discussing whether the screed needs to be removed in a basement that has been flooded with almost 20cm (8 inches) of sewage. Many share the opinion that it is not necessary, as drying removes the nutrients from the sewage. It is assumed that there will be no odor issues.

How many liters is it supposed to soak up? Don’t exaggerate. Why am I exaggerating? That was a question. And I think it’s reasonable to ask it in this context. If it’s unrealistic—fine, then I’m relieved.

Just think about how long it takes for intense exposure on a stable wall. Once is not the same as always. The most important thing is to wash it off mentally.

If the final inspection has not yet been completed, make sure to note it in the report!
A friend once bought a single-family house at an auction where an animal hoarder had lived with about 25 dogs that had no outdoor access. Many corners were soaked with urine, and the hardwood floor was stained with feces. After nearly six months and many attempts to fix the problem, the screed and the plaster had to be removed because the odor was still unbearable...

A friend once bought a single-family house at an auction, where an animal hoarder lived with about 25 dogs without any access to outside exercise. So, many corners were urinated on and the parquet flooring had feces stains. After almost half a year and many attempts to fix it, the screed and plaster had to be removed because the smell was still unbearable... Don't make a mountain out of a molehill. One time peeing in the corner with 25 dogs, who probably did that for years, is not comparable at all.
In our case, the tile installers urinated in the future bedroom. That jerk seemed to have done this at every house in the new development. Anti-social, but completely irrelevant. There was no lasting damage anywhere. So don't freak out over such a minor issue or do you renovate the entire house if the toddler misses the diaper or toilet?
