Hello everyone,

Since this is my first post in this forum, I would like to briefly introduce myself. My name is Alex, I am 29 years old, and my wife, my 17-month-old daughter, and I are currently planning to build a new single-family house.

We have been living since 2010 with my parents-in-law and brother-in-law in a multi-generational house (3 households) and for various reasons we urgently want to move out and start our own project... 🙂

In our village, a local residents’ scheme is currently being developed, and fortunately, we now have the opportunity to choose one of the five remaining plots of land. However, we are still unsure which one to pick. The problem is that we only have a short period to decide, as we don’t want or can’t keep the families ranked behind us waiting.

For this reason, I would be interested in your assessment. I will not reveal our preferred plots to avoid bias.

Plot 1: 517 m² (5570 sq ft)
Plot 2: 414 m² (4455 sq ft)
Plot 3: 527 m² (5675 sq ft)
Plot 4: 508 m² (5470 sq ft)
Plot 5: 501 m² (5395 sq ft)

I look forward to a lively exchange of opinions 🙂

Best regards

Alex

P.S. In case it matters, we plan to build a single-family house with about 140 - 150 m² (1500 - 1615 sq ft) of living space, plus a double garage, and possibly a basement.

Hello Alex,

I would choose number 3, simply because you are right next to the park (where your child will probably play).
Additionally, you can orient your terrace towards the south / southwest, allowing you to stay outside longer in the evenings after grilling...

If you like living by the water, then lot 2 is also an option, but it looks like the terrace / garden can only be oriented to the east here (plus a possible mosquito problem in the summer).

Good luck,
Ani

I would probably also prefer option 3 because of the possibility to build the terrace on the south side.

Thanks a lot for your reply. I should mention that the blue-shaded areas are just balancing ponds, so they aren’t permanently filled with water—only when the small stream to the east overflows...

There will be a playground in the park (probably for the children in the whole neighborhood), but I’m not sure if that might cause noise issues :/

Is 500 m² (5,382 sq ft) enough for you?

Hello Alex,

well, the question that probably no one can answer for you is how your house is planned or what you have in mind. Dimensions of 10x10 meters (33x33 feet) or rather 8x13 meters (26x43 feet), just thrown out there as an example. Because I would base the decision about the plot on that. 😉

Regarding the size, they are all quite similar and should be sufficient for you.
