Hello friends.
First post here, so hello to everyone!

I’m a student (25) and very short on cash 😉 and have taken over my grandma’s little cabin.
My grandpa built the cabin together with my dad and my other grandpa about 30 years ago, and since then it was kind of my grandpa’s pride and joy. He took care of the land and built the house with very limited resources. The exterior cladding and interior paneling were done properly, but now the roof and floor have become leaky.
After my grandpa passed away, my uncle moved in and worked with an even lower budget since he didn’t have much money, similar to my current situation.
The only difference is that I have a car and can transport pretty much anything.

Well, nobody has been there for 1.5 years, so the inside looks and smells accordingly.
There are animals everywhere, and the traces of rats/mice have appeared in several places.
Now I am starting to clear out the house and want to either begin renovation this year or next spring.
I will be abroad for 5 months starting in August this year and don’t know if I’ll start working on it before then.

Ants, spiders, and other critters are coming in through multiple cracks and damaged spots in the floor; the rats/mice must have found their way in somewhere, and in some areas it even rains inside.

The walls consist of wooden cladding on both the outside and inside, and I suspect there is no insulation in between.
How can I make the house watertight again? I am clear about needing to reroof, but what else needs to be done to ensure there is a seal between the foundation, exterior cladding, and interior paneling that prevents any animals and/or moisture from getting inside, while also keeping heat out?

At the moment, I have received or gathered 2.5 rolls of insulation wool from people who had some left over. Is insulation wool the right choice for a little house like this?
