Hello everyone,

A few weeks ago, we visited a new housing development where we saw this tree at the entrance area.
Can anyone tell us what type of tree this is?

Also, we would like to know how winter-hardy it is, as it seems to have survived this cold winter without any damage. 🙂

In my opinion, this is a formal pruning of a cypress or a similar evergreen tree. It would also be winter-hardy.

With natural beauty, many things are possible – unfortunately, no longer naturally here.

I also believe it is a type of cypress.
We planted three on our property a few days ago.
There are many beautiful varieties of them.
All cypresses are supposed to be winter-hardy.

In my opinion, it is a conifer that has been pruned into a bonsai shape (various species are cultivated/pruned for this purpose). Since growing such a tree is very labor-intensive, a tree of this size costs around EUR 1,500.

Yes, they are meant to be expensive because they will be pruned over the years.

That looks like juniper... If you search for "juniper" and "Japanese" online, you’ll find many nice examples in the image results. It is also completely winter-hardy.
