Hey,

how did you handle (or not handle) the transition between the wall and the ceiling?

Did anyone use molding, is that still common, or do you simply leave it as is, especially since there is sometimes a small gap visible where the ceiling meets the walls?

Acrylic is supposed to just seal the joint. With a trim, you can't see it anyway, so it probably works without it as well.

Ok, so only for visual purposes, not for waterproofing....

There should be no need for sealing there. The plaster should already be watertight on its own. Acrylic is then used to bridge gaps. Silicone could also be used, but only acrylic is paintable.

I believe this is about a bungalow from Heinz von Heiden. We have the same. In our case, the ceiling is drywall, suspended from the beam structure of the attic floor. All the walls are masonry. The joint width also depends on how precisely the drywall was cut.

If you can tolerate it, leave it open for 2 years, as it will move. Acrylic will crack earlier, since it is less elastic than silicone. I definitely would not recommend silicone; I tried that before in an older house, and it didn’t work well.

If you prefer not to wait, you could use molding strips and simply glue them to the ceiling so they can slide along.

Congratulations! When will you be moving in?

Best regards,
Gabriele

The drywall gap between the ceiling gypsum board and the side wall was plastered in our case (as the previous speaker mentioned, the gap can vary in thickness).
For the gap between the ceiling and the wall, I thought it was meant to be dealt with, for example, after wallpapering.

Acrylic sealant should only be used if it will be painted afterwards or is meant to be painted.

The painter is currently working at our place and is sealing everything with acrylic. He has already finished the first rooms. I really like decorative moldings under the ceiling, but we don’t have any for now. Maybe we’ll add some later. So far, the painter has taped off a few centimeters and left it white. I actually like it.
