Hi everyone,

our shell builder has been busy, and the topping-out ceremony is the day after tomorrow!

We have everything prepared so far, all good. During the planning phase, I also did some online research and occasionally came across the mention of:

Gifts (envelopes with money) for the tradespeople?

At first glance, I find that a bit excessive and had never heard of it before. Have you ever done something like handing out money envelopes? Don’t get me wrong, but when I complete a successful project at work, I only receive my salary and maybe a thank-you on a lucky day.

Of course, the guys are invited, and there’s meat and beer ready!

Rituals and customs vary a lot by region; we are building near Nuremberg, in Franconia.

Best regards

No.

Yes, otherwise no one would build that way – why else do you think there are so many flat roofs? duh...

Actually, if you don’t hold a topping-out ceremony, the building won’t be officially accepted – why else do you think there are so many flat roofs?

That’s obviously nonsense. The real consequences of not having a topping-out ceremony are:
- No gifts,
- Bad luck,
- 20 years of bad sex.

@alter0029 I actually know homeowners who didn’t hold a topping-out ceremony or even a housewarming party a few months after moving in. And they are still very much alive! And doing fine! But a bad construction manager and an incompetent company shouldn’t stop you from doing what you want. Is the topping-out ceremony important to you? Then celebrate it (the way you want, not how your construction manager wants)! If not, then just skip it...
