Hello,
I am reaching out based on the advice of one of your experts who provided tips in another forum where I have already explained my problem.
Our detached house developed various cracks. According to the report, the cause was “thermal effects throughout the seasonal cycle” on the reinforced concrete slab of the flat roof. As a remedy, insulating the parapet was recommended; we also insulated the roof and exterior walls. These measures were completed three years ago.
In one of the children's bedrooms, stair-step cracks appeared in a wall. They formed around a point where a beam (support beam) rests on the wall.
Last December, I repaired these cracks as follows:
Now, after three months, the mesh is bulging outward where the cracks were, as if the wall, ceiling, or beam above is pressing down. I thought this might be acceptable to some extent. Here is a photo.
I have the following questions:
I appreciate any advice!
Best regards,
Chefkoch

In one of the children's bedrooms, stair-step cracks appeared in a wall. They formed around a point where a beam (support beam) rests on the wall.
Last December, I repaired these cracks as follows:
- Chiseling out the cracks slightly
- Filling the cracks (with Knauf Multi Finish), then sanding the plaster
- Applying two full coats of silicate filler (Pufas SL4), reinforcing the wall with fiberglass mesh (Kobau 5/5a)
Now, after three months, the mesh is bulging outward where the cracks were, as if the wall, ceiling, or beam above is pressing down. I thought this might be acceptable to some extent. Here is a photo.
I have the following questions:
- Should I be seriously concerned?
- How should I fix this now? What did I do wrong?
- How can I repair my walls so that this does not happen again?
I appreciate any advice!
Best regards,
Chefkoch
