Hello, first of all, greetings to everyone. I hope there is someone here who can give me a few tips. We have a plot of land in Colombia on the Caribbean coast, and before we start building our house, we want to first set up a wooden cabin so we can stay there overnight. The cabin will later be used for visitors. Since our land has hardly any flat areas and also because of animals, security, and the view, I want to build it on 12 concrete stilts. Honestly, I have no experience with building so far (and also with drawing, as you can see ;-)). The area is 9x4.5 meters (30x15 feet), with 2/3 allocated for the cabin and 1/3 for the balcony. Not much will go inside, maybe a partition to allow separate sleeping areas, 1-2 closets, and a table with chairs on the balcony, that’s it. The roof is very light, it’s a kind of thin fiberglass. A summer kitchen will be added later on the ground floor or next to it, and the bathroom and toilet are outdoors.

My first question is whether, in your opinion, the columns and their foundations are okay as shown—do they provide enough support or are there maybe even too many? This drawing is in Spanish, but I think it is quite self-explanatory.

My second question is if it is possible to download a sketch or plan for such a cabin and the wooden floor—like how many beams are needed, exactly where they should go, and so on? The drawing I have made so far is just a rough draft, but I already found a mistake. The roof should of course also cover the balcony because of the heat.

I would really appreciate any responses, thank you very much.

Look, I’m not good at drawing either, but this method is quite simple and stable:

Hello, thank you very much for the tip. I had also considered this option, but I want to make the columns entirely out of concrete. My questions were more about whether people with more building experience than I consider the number of columns to be adequate, and where to find a drawing for the framework of the wooden cabin that will be placed on the columns. Thanks

With plain concrete columns, you will need a lot of material and very strong foundations because you are building a rigid structure. This is of course possible, but it is likely to be significantly more expensive with reinforcement.
