Philiboy8316 Apr 2013 11:12Hello everyone,
We are planning to build our house (a one-and-a-half-story single-family home) using timber frame construction. So far, so good...
However, we’re still undecided about whether to use a 16mm (0.6 inch) DWDprotect panel or a soft fiberboard panel of, for example, 22mm (0.9 inch) or 34mm (1.3 inches) as the exterior sheathing on the outer walls. We have several carpentry companies that have submitted offers, and some say they would never use DWD again, while others only install DWD.
The background is that there have reportedly been problems with mold developing on DWD panels in the past. I was even able to see this firsthand on a renovation project nearby... Naturally, this makes us worried about building with DWD. On the other hand, the carpenter who is currently our favorite only works with DWD and has not encountered any problems, while another company just a few blocks away no longer uses it at all...
Have you had similar discussions or experiences yourselves?
Best regards
