Hello everyone,

I plan to install parquet flooring (14mm (0.55 inches)) on one side of the living room and tiles (80x80cm (31.5x31.5 inches)) on the other side. The transition should preferably be without profiles or similar, but there must be no height difference.

My parquet installer told me that with his adhesive and parquet, the total height will be about 18mm (0.7 inches). So now the challenge is to bring the tiles, which are 9mm (0.35 inches) thick, up to 18mm (0.7 inches) using adhesive (9–10mm (0.35–0.4 inches)). I have already found a product from PCI (Flott) that is supposed to be suitable for large-format and heavy tiles.

Will this work smoothly, or does anyone have experience with this? Notched trowel 10x10mm (0.4x0.4 inches)? I want to avoid using leveling compound.

Thanks.

I’m not sure if you can achieve the 9mm (0.35 inch) height using the 10cm (4 inch) putty knife. It’s best to try it out... In any case, I would recommend using fast-setting adhesive. We also installed our 3cm (1.2 inch) thick granite slabs with a thick-bed mortar; on the stairs, we had to apply up to 30mm (1.2 inch) of adhesive.

Perhaps the center bedding method could also be an option... Semi-circular toothed profile 20mm/10mm (0.8 inches/0.4 inches)?!
