Hello,

I or a good tiler friend of mine will soon start tiling. However, I am not exactly sure where to begin.

I have attached a plan. I want to tile the living/dining room and kitchen. The tiles are 90 x 45cm (35 x 18 inches).

Can someone help me figure out the best place to start in this room? My friend knows what he’s doing but I would also like to have some understanding so I can participate in the planning.

Please only helpful answers.

Best regards

Where are the expansion joints?
Has the kitchen already been tiled? Also with the 45 x 90 cm (18 x 36 inch) tiles?

... but I am wondering if you want to have a discussion based on partial knowledge with the trained craftsman when you cannot understand why he starts where he starts 😕

I thought the same thing.... If the friend KNOWS what he’s doing, he will set the pace, not the other way around.....

A tile installer already thinks about where to start as soon as they enter the room. They measure in advance to avoid having 1cm (0.4 inch) strips at some edges.
