Good morning everyone,
I will soon be starting the tile installation for my new build. I received an offer from a supplier:
- 240 sqm (2,583 sq ft) of 90 x 90 cm (35 x 35 inch) tiles
- 155 m (509 ft) of baseboard
Total price: 7,500 €
Is this a good price?
A local tiler gave the following quote for tile installation (including materials like adhesive, grout, etc.):
9,000 €
Are both offers reasonable?
Thank you for your expertise.

Overall, it is a reasonable price – whether the tiles meet your requirements or a certain quality (which you need given the size) is something only you can decide.
For example, I paid only €5.95 per square meter (about $0.55 per square foot) for my 80 x 80 cm (31.5 x 31.5 inch) tiles in the hallway. At that price, the tiles are perfectly adequate for the hallway (which is not part of the apartments in my building).
Does “tiling” include the tiles themselves?
Or does it mean only the tiles from the supplier, and the labor including consumables by the tiler?
It’s not entirely clear.
If it’s as I wrote, then the labor price seems reasonable.
The cost of tiles depends heavily on the type of tiles, so it can’t be answered in general.

Osnabruecker26 Aug 2021 10:36Tiles for around 30 €/m2 (about $32/ft²) are mid-range pricing. For 90x90 cm (35x35 inches) tiles, that’s reasonable. It just has to be to your taste...
There are also tiles for under 10 €/m2 (about $10.50/ft²), and we are satisfied with those.
I find the installation cost of 37.5 €/m2 (about $40/ft²) including adhesive and so on to be rather inexpensive given the current market situation.
Are you sure that this price also includes the installation of such large tiles as well as walls and baseboards? How about tile cutting? Is that included as well?

Hello,
We are currently having tiles installed as well (ground floor 125 m² (1345 sq ft)).
Sizes are 80x80 cm (31x31 inches) and 120x120 cm (47x47 inches).
Price for 80x80 cm (31x31 inches) tile = €47.60 including VAT.
Price for 120x120 cm (47x47 inches) tile = €85 including VAT.
Both sizes are also available at significantly higher prices as well as up to 50% cheaper, depending on quality, so this doesn’t really help you much.
What will be more helpful are the tile installation prices:
Wall tile 120x120 cm (47x47 inches) = €62/m² (per sq meter) including VAT.
Wall tile 80x80 cm (31x31 inches) = €57/m² including VAT.
Floor tile 120x120 cm (47x47 inches) = €50/m² including VAT.
Floor tile 80x80 cm (31x31 inches) = €45/m² including VAT.
For your project with over 240 m² (2583 sq ft) and in the greater Cologne area, the estimated cost for installation alone would be around €14,000, so your prices are good!
