ᐅ Choosing Tiles – Where and How to Start?

Hello everyone,

We need to choose the tiles for our house, but the developer limits the number of different types.

We have already visited the showroom and seen and touched all the options in person.

Unfortunately, I have no idea how to best combine different tiles in certain areas.

The bathrooms in specialist stores sometimes look great, but they are not very helpful because they are often too extravagant, impractical, expensive, etc.

Is there a catalog with common tile combinations somewhere, or where did you get your inspiration from?

Thanks and have a great weekend!

That wouldn’t be an argument for me. After all, you have a cleaning service (cleaner) that comes once a week and makes everything spotless again.

It doesn’t matter who does the cleaning. Whether you clean yourself or have it done once a week, white or black tiles will look dirty six days out of seven.
It may be that when you have someone else clean, you tend to overlook the dirt a bit and turn a blind eye to reality.

Hey, thanks to everyone for the replies!

I’m only getting around to writing now because we visited two trade fairs and have gathered a few more ideas.

Can you recommend a configurator? Sweet Home 3D isn’t very practical for tiles, and the manufacturers’ online tools didn’t work well in our initial tests — especially since their bathrooms are quite different from a standard bathroom.

Is there any reason not to choose white matte wall tiles? Especially regarding cleaning? We really like them.

Flooring is even more difficult...

Edit: In general, our style is rather minimalist and clean. Furnishings in stainless steel, black, silver, and white. But then we add a contrasting touch with baroque chairs and feather lamps.

And finally, the budget question: I don’t examine or feel tiles closely if the price is far above the limit.
From experience, I can say that is very wise. Never look at Sicis mosaics!

…and the housekeeper, the chauffeur, the butler, the cooking team… not everyone is comfortable factoring in staff when designing their custom home.

There is absolutely no reason against that. If you like a simple look, you could choose flooring with a stone-like appearance. Sand colors seem “warmer” – gray or slate tones feel more “cool.”

I would choose white, brown, concrete, or anthracite.

Avoid painting entire walls white; otherwise, it looks like a slaughterhouse.

No set design package.
Tile studios have samples and can make suggestions to prevent the space from looking like a slaughterhouse.
They create visualizations of your rooms with the selected tiles.

Sometimes I wonder if you’re trying to be provocative or if you really don’t realize how much you’re missing the reality of many users. It definitely sounds pretty arrogant.

@white matte wall tiles: works perfectly. We sampled them together with slate-look floor tiles for the bathrooms in our first turnkey house project. (Let’s see what we end up choosing)
