Hausbauer18 May 2018 23:05A colleague of mine is planning to have his house built soon using thermal bricks/Poroton combined with insulated facing bricks. Since discussions about wall constructions here often become almost like a religion, I wanted to open this up for discussion to see whether this might be a good solution.
The thermal insulation of this combination is said to be excellent. It is also supposed to be a solid choice regarding soundproofing, protection against summer heat, costs, vulnerability to construction defects, weather resistance, and appearance. But doesn’t everyone say that about their preferred system?

I am currently uncertain: are you interested in religious debates, or are you hoping that an exception will be made for you so that this topic is not discussed in a religious manner?

Hausbauer19 May 2018 09:17Hello ant11,
I find these passionate discussions quite interesting, as you can also extract good arguments for and against. However, I also appreciate factual and objective contributions.
And yes, of course I am asking this question for myself because I found this option interesting. However, I wanted to briefly explain the background that I heard about this construction method from someone else. Apparently, it was recommended by an architect.
So now I’m curious to hear what the experts have to say.

The thermal insulation of this combination seems to be fantastic. Also regarding soundproofing, protection against summer heat, costs, vulnerability to construction defects, weather resistance, and appearance ... this is not reinventing the wheel. I looked into it a bit: the "Thermoklinker" refers to facing brick slips that are offered together with an insulation board as a backing. This board is also profiled in a way that makes it easy for builders to attach the slips at the correct spacing when glued onto it. From my point of view, it’s more of a convenience product than a groundbreaking innovation. The combination with aerated clay blocks with a cream filling is not bad, but also nothing revolutionary. It lacks the depth of development to mark the beginning of a new era.
