Hello everyone,

According to the soil report from our builder, there is a risk of accumulating groundwater on our plot. Our architect has now informed us that the basement needs to be specially waterproofed because of this. This would mean additional costs of 10,000 euros. Is that realistic? I could almost build a new basement for that...

Have you ever dealt with a similar issue of groundwater? How did you waterproof your basements? If I understand correctly, a waterproof tank-like structure around the entire basement is required?!

Thanks for your feedback and best regards,

Hello Tiger,
I can understand you well. It makes you think. Since we also plan to build a basement next year, I’m trying to learn more about the topic online. This whole waterproofing system seems quite complicated and delicate. Whether these waterproofing liners are really sealed properly. It seems that many people have had bad experiences. The basement ends up damp later, and there is mold. At a trade fair, I discovered a different system. Maybe try searching for “basement waterproofing system” online. Perhaps someone here has experience with it.
