ᐅ The wall suddenly smells like marijuana and stale beer.

Hello,
I know this is a home construction forum, but I am at a loss and hope to get some helpful advice.
For a few days now, there has been a smell of stale beer/marijuana in the bedroom of my partner and me. We have searched everywhere and found nothing. It is absolutely certain that the cause is not related to these substances.
Now, I smelled the walls (sounds strange, I know) and noticed that a slanted wall smells strongly of this. It is the "sun wall" on the upper floor. The house is about 70 years old.
What could be causing this? Do we need to open up the wall? Could it be mold or maybe a decomposing animal?
I am at a loss.

Thank you in advance!

A thought about laminate flooring: Have any of you installed a bio-eco stepping protection layer underneath?

I had this in a previous apartment, and at least initially, it emitted a noticeable odor. However, that faded over time (or I just got used to it). These were greenish, rather stiff mats, unlike the usual foam rolls.

We have not made any changes to the flooring since we moved in. We have been living in the house since 2009. As mentioned, the smell first appeared in the spring three years ago. We also did not make any changes at that time. No new wallpaper or anything else. This morning there was no noticeable smell, just very faint if you know what smell to look for. Otherwise, it is stronger, like yesterday morning. Yesterday evening there was no smell at all.
This is driving me crazy.

Could it possibly be the east side, if the sun shines on the house or through the window in the morning?
Is the weather (e.g., humidity) different from yesterday?

Not really. Maybe a bit sunnier.
But this only happens from the end of February until about the end of April. After that, no more!
I would also guess an early bloomer, but this scent is not around the whole house. Only about two weeks ago, I briefly noticed it in the driveway, but only for a short time.

Great that you’re all puzzling this out with us! So, it’s not the beam either—I sniffed it. I have exactly these green stripes under the laminate flooring, but I also have some more stored in the utility room, and there it doesn’t smell.

I also crawled around again on the floor and along the baseboards, smelled at all the outlets and again at the walls. Nothing... This morning I placed a thermometer with humidity sensor in the living room and will start keeping a record of it.

For me, it’s happening roughly at the same time as for Nadine. I’m also guessing early bloomers, but strangely I couldn’t smell anything from the tree today, though I could smell it in the living room. So frustrating...

Hmm, I would guess it’s the eco-insulation layer. When I installed it, there was no smell at first, but it appeared later. Especially when the sun was shining on the laminate floor. I suspect it must be a specific combination of temperature and air (or ground) humidity that causes the odor to be released.
