woyaaxxHello,
we purchased five doors from Bauhaus for our house and had them installed. The installation was done correctly, everything is level.
Unfortunately, two of these doors are very difficult to close and lock. We contacted Bauhaus, and a technician came who claimed that this was normal. We then complained again, and this time three people came: the store manager, an employee, and an expert. After a long discussion, none of these three could explain why three of the five doors close perfectly while the others do not.
To fix the problem, they filed down the strike plates. We had considered this idea ourselves, but I saw it as damaging the doors, so I refrained from doing so.
Now they want to charge us 150€ for what I believe is a botched job.
Is this legal? Or should I consult a building inspector?
Thank you!

Just because the door frame and door leaf are plumb doesn’t mean that the door closer and strike plate will align properly. I recently installed 11 doors by myself, and since I am an amateur, I practiced and adjusted the less important doors until everything fit correctly. Various adjustments can be made on door hinges, so your doors should be adjustable too. If not, it might be a manufacturing defect or very improper installation. About 20 years ago, I filed down strike plates on 60-year-old doors. Maybe you could share some pictures (details as well as whole doors and frames)?
