Hello everyone,
I have a Malm bed from IKEA, and for the past few days it has been squeaking at the foot end whenever I move or turn over. The noise clearly comes from the lower part where the legs are attached. I have already tried tightening all the screws, but it hasn’t really helped. Does anyone have experience with how to fix this squeaking specifically at the foot end of this bed? I don’t want to take the whole bed apart right away, but would like to know what might be causing it and the best way to fix it. Thanks in advance for any tips!

Is there a trick to differentiate this acoustically?I often do it like this: while someone presses on the bed, I listen carefully to where the sound comes from and at the same time try to feel with my hand if any parts are loose or rubbing. The slightest movements often cause the noises.
If you lift the whole bed slightly or change its height, you can do the same and see if the squeaking changes. This might help to pinpoint the affected area more precisely.
Last night, I completely loosened all the screws, slightly realigned the bed, and then tightened them again. Additionally, I applied furniture wax to the joints. The squeaking has become quieter so far, but it has not disappeared completely.
The tip about using Teflon tape was interesting; I will try that next time.
Thank you very much for the helpful advice! If the squeaking continues, I will inspect the metal legs and their attachments again.
The question remains: How many times can the screws be safely loosened and retightened without damaging the threads?
