Hi,
I installed laminate flooring myself in my living room, but now the floor near the balcony door is oddly bulging upwards. What did I do wrong?

Hello,
is it possible that you didn’t leave an expansion gap? If the laminate is installed all the way up to the wall, it has no room to expand and will eventually warp in the only direction left, upwards. You can remove the last row and leave a gap; 3-4 cm (1¼-1½ inches) should be enough.

The mistake you made is unfortunately common. There should always be a gap left on every side towards the wall. Even though laminate partially consists of plastic, it still expands and contracts with changes in temperature.

At our home improvement store, you can get spacers that are placed along the wall and show how close you can lay the flooring. This helps prevent the laminate from warping over time and having to be removed.

Next week, we will be installing laminate flooring ourselves. Thank you very much for the instructional tips. We will follow them carefully. We will also make sure to use spacers along the edges, as advised.

Now nothing can go wrong.

That has happened to me before as well. The laminate flooring warped right in front of the patio door. Not immediately, but gradually. At first, I couldn’t understand what was causing it.

Then someone explained it to me, and I realized I had installed the laminate all the way up to the wall. I took it up again and left a gap at the wall. Now it lays perfectly.
