Dear Forum,

I’m not sure if this is the right place, but I want to talk about our heating system. Especially during these very cold days, we notice that the heating never gets properly warm. We have an oil-fired boiler in the basement with a large tank in the garden. The technicians always say everything is fine. We have also bled the radiators ourselves several times. Is it possible to have an expert come and take a look? But who ends up paying for that? Thank you for your answers.

We had this issue before as well. Our heating specialist advised us to simply bleed the radiators. At first, I didn’t know what he meant, but I looked it up online and found the right instructions, and it worked.

Yes, Angeliga mentioned something important, but you can't only bleed the radiator; there is also the option to do this directly at the oil heating system in the basement, for example, by yourself. However, you then need to refill the water in the heating system. I do this once a year, and my home is always nicely warm.

I know this problem as well. Often, bleeding the radiators helps, and that usually brings good results. I also like henry’s advice and will keep it in mind. It’s really frustrating when it’s cold outside and the apartment doesn’t warm up.

Regularly bleeding the radiators is often enough. However, if they remain cold, the water pressure is too low. In that case, water needs to be refilled.

That’s definitely a problem when the heating doesn’t get properly warm. I experienced this just recently during the transitional season. In our case, a valve was stuck, and I managed to fix it myself.
