Hello,

In my condominium, new windows have been installed, and one of the windows also has an external roller shutter. When it rains, water runs down the inside of the roller shutters, both when they are fully closed and when they are partially closed (see photos).

The company that installed the roller shutters says this is normal. Is that true? I find it a bit odd and am concerned that when the shutters are raised, the moisture might get into the roller shutter box, potentially damaging the shutters relatively quickly.

Best regards,
Torsten

This is obviously not normal and clearly a defect. Unfortunately, it is not possible to identify the cause since you have not shown the situation from the outside as well. In the pictures, I only see an insect screen wet with raindrops behind a blind, but nothing of the blind’s construction or its housing is visible.

In that case, you shouldn’t use roller shutters. Surprisingly, they tend to get wet from the outside when it rains. So even with properly functioning roller shutters (water running through is not normal!), you always have to be cautious.
Therefore, a damp roller shutter curtain is not bad, but actually quite normal.

That is true, of course. My mistake in reasoning.

But now I have two different statements; annt11 also said it is a defect.

Are there any other opinions?

Hello,

there shouldn’t be that many water droplets on the inside of your insect screen. At least, that’s not the case here.
So I would also say that this is a defect.

If it becomes this wet during rain with the shutters closed, you need to be able to observe where all the water is coming from.
If it is an exterior roller shutter box, the water can only be running behind it. At least, the even streaks of raindrops on the insect screen suggest this.

As 11ant already told you, you should post photos of the problem itself, not just the effects.
