ᐅ Existing DN-32 connection to remain – what does this mean for the new build?

Hello everyone,

We are currently a bit stuck and hope to get some input from your experiences.

We have purchased a plot of land in Berlin with a building to be demolished. At the moment, we are arranging the rerouting of electricity and water to ensure that the demolition and subsequent new construction can proceed smoothly.

For the water connection, we submitted an application for modification with the Berlin Waterworks (BWB), as we planned together with our architect to relocate the water chamber centrally to the property boundary. A corresponding site plan was submitted.

Now we have received feedback from BWB:

The existing network connection DN 32 St. can continue to be used.
A location change is not necessary.
The connection can be renewed in DN 32 PE and relocated into the new water meter chamber.
The relevant technical standard 225 was attached.

Since the existing building will be completely demolished and we have to reorganize everything for the new construction, we are now unsure how to interpret this information. We had actually expected the connection to be completely newly installed or relocated.

Our questions:
  • Does this mean that we are allowed to reroute the pipe from the demolition building ourselves and only the connection point is handled by BWB?
  • Do we now have to construct the new water meter chamber at the existing pipe location, even if this location is rather inconvenient for our new construction?
  • How is the renewal from steel to PE (DN 32) carried out in practice? Does the civil engineer handle this, and BWB only connects it?
  • Has anyone had experience requesting a location change anyway, even though BWB considers it unnecessary? Or is this financially or administratively not practical?
  • What should we pay attention to during the new construction to avoid problems with the water connection later?
Maybe as an additional note: From the start, we planned the utility room at the back. This now complicates matters because in the original plan, we did not consider how much the water connection location affects the layout. Although we have an architect, unfortunately this point was overlooked, and we are now trying to find the best solution without incurring unnecessary costs or doing things twice.

We look forward to any feedback or experiences from other home builders.

Although we have an architect, this issue unfortunately slipped through,

However, your questions should be fully answered by them. Ultimately, these are also local conditions that depend on how things are handled in your area.

that the connection was completely redone

Connections are always completely redone. Everything is treated like new construction (which it actually is).
