fargo48Hello everyone,
Before renovating, I had very good experiences with the doors on my Kallax shelving unit—they always closed flush. Since the recent renovation of my living room, including new walls and slight changes in temperature and humidity, I’ve noticed that the doors on the Kallax module no longer close flush. Upon closer inspection, it seems the frame may have warped or the doors themselves no longer fit perfectly in the openings.
I have already checked the hinges and even tried realigning the doors, but unfortunately without the desired result. I understand that environmental factors like humidity or slight unevenness in the floor can cause such changes.
Has anyone here in the forum experienced similar issues with Kallax shelving after renovations, and how can I professionally and permanently solve this problem? My main goal is to get the doors to close again without gaps, without having too much play or sticking. Any help or tips on possible adjustment mechanisms or modifications would be greatly appreciated.

Since the recent renovation of my living room, including new walls and slightly changed temperature and humidity levels, I’ve noticed that the doors on the Kallax unit no longer close flush. That sounds really frustrating. Renovations often bring unexpected minor side effects that can make everyday life more difficult. I know the feeling when something that worked perfectly before suddenly acts up, and you’re not exactly sure why.
I’ve noticed that furniture made from MDF or particleboard tends to warp slightly under changing indoor climate conditions. Especially when humidity fluctuates, that can seriously affect how well doors fit.
Maybe it’s similar in your case—possibly the material absorbed a bit of moisture after the renovation and lost its shape. I had a similar issue with a small cabinet once, and the only solution was to let the furniture dry slowly with a window open and occasionally adjust the doors.
Could you check whether the frame or the doors are reacting differently to the new environment? Also, are the floors or walls more level than before? That can sometimes have the biggest impact.

On closer inspection, it seems that the frame may have warped or the doors themselves no longer fit precisely into the opening.Based on your description, the first step is to check the alignment and fastening of the hinges. The IKEA Kallax doors have adjustable hinges with screws that can be adjusted horizontally, vertically, and in depth.
My recommendation would be to first verify the correct positioning of the unit itself using a level or plumb line. Even slight tilts or uneven floors can significantly affect door fit.
Secondly, you should loosen the hinges (without fully unscrewing them) and reposition the doors to achieve a flush fit.
If the shelving unit shows material deformation due to moisture exposure, this is more difficult to fix. The Kallax modules are usually made of coated particleboard, which is sensitive to moisture. In this case, replacing the doors might be advisable if adjustment is no longer sufficient.
In summary:
1. Check unit alignment (using a level, floor evenness)
2. Adjust hinges (horizontal/vertical/depth)
3. Inspect door frames and surrounding structure for warping
4. Replace components if necessary
These are the essential steps for a lasting solution.

However, it is also necessary to consider whether the general environmental conditions might be the underlying cause. Simply adjusting the hinges will not provide a lasting solution if, for example, the floor is shifting more or renovation dust has caused contamination in the hinges.

Since the recent renovation of my living room, including new walls and slightly changed temperatures and humidity levelsHas anyone checked whether the door seal or contact points have become slightly deformed? Heat sources nearby or dust from renovation work can also be contributing factors. A sensible approach is to thoroughly clean all mechanisms and apply a minimal amount of lubricant, if dealing with moving parts.
Additionally: Is it possible to reposition the Kallax unit to a different location and readjust it to test whether the current placement is causing the issue? This would better isolate the impact of the room’s conditions.
In my opinion, purely mechanical adjustment is not sufficient without carefully examining external factors. It would be interesting to hear if anyone has systematically analyzed similar cases.
