Hello,

we decided to use a "concrete base layer made of drainage concrete" for our terrace installation with the following product description:
Concrete base layer made from permeable bedding mortar with a grain size of 0-8 mm, hydraulically bound, up to 5 cm (2 inches) thick. Supplement to item resin jointing. According to DIN 18318 for paved surfaces and pavements in bound construction, it is required to build a substructure consisting of a concrete drainage layer to ensure the durability of the resin joint.

Beforehand, I watched some videos online using the term "drainage concrete" and concluded that this type of substructure is a coarse concrete that is processed while wet, then hardens to create a particularly durable base for the terrace surface.

We had both paths and the terrace area installed – the drainage concrete was supposed to be used only for the terrace.
However, during the paving work, the approach was completely different. Under both the path slabs and the terrace slabs, the same material was used, which I would informally describe as "gravel." In the quote, this is called "installation on 2/5 gravel."

On the terrace surface, several handfuls of cement were then scattered onto the gravel before placing the slabs.

After about two weeks, the company returned due to a complaint about many loose slabs and lifted some of them. The so-called drainage concrete beneath could be moved by hand.

Now, a basic question: What exactly is drainage concrete? Is it the kind shown in the videos, or are there other types?
