Hello dear forum,

We are currently stuck with the terrace planning. The base structure is in place. The installation will be done on a gravel bed. The 2 cm (approximately 0.8 inch) ceramic tiles are out of the question, as I don’t think it makes sense to install them on a gravel bed. We have agreed on concrete so far. Wood is not an option, as my wife doesn’t want it. The question is: which color tone might fit? The house features a multicolored red brick (autumn tones) with green windows and a green roof. So far, we are undecided. Possibly just gray, sandstone, or a beige tone. We have absolutely no idea how it will look in the end. The terrace is about 35 m2 (approximately 377 sq ft) in size.

Thank you so far… maybe someone is familiar with this issue and can help us out.

Thank you for your feedback... the Luserna gneiss looks good, but it's a bit over our budget. Inside, the style is more country house. We are leaning toward a beige tone to create a cozier atmosphere. However, it’s not that easy to find the right option. For the driveway, we wanted to use old-town-style cobblestones.

We have shortlisted some tiles... all in beige, caramel, and sand beige colors. It would be great to see how they look on a large surface to get an idea of the overall effect... would shell beige or shell limestone be an option, or would that look too busy? The tiles should be 60 x 40 cm (24 x 16 inches)... maybe something along those lines, like hacienda entrada, could also work.

What does the old town cobblestone look like? Are they small natural stones in a uniform medium gray? I would match the color of the terrace slabs to that.

Best regards

Well, we’re not sure yet... but it will be the standard paving format, 20 cm x 15 cm (8 inches x 6 inches), like old-town cobblestones... if possible, in a subtle beige tone... we will do the terrace first and the driveway later...

For the paving, we like the Via Patio, Via Vario series, or also the antique paving in sandstone color from the company Diephaus... Sandstone looks similar to the beige shade... at least in the pictures.

Why not use 2cm (0.8 inch) terrace slabs on drainage concrete?
That way, the slabs are fixed in place but still allow water to pass through the joints.
At least you can clean them well compared to concrete, right?
