we plan to build our 23 sqm (248 sq ft) terrace in early autumn using wood-look terrace tiles (gray). I fell in love with a 2 cm (0.8 inch) thick porcelain stoneware tile at a well-known DIY store. It is stated that these tiles can be installed on crushed stone, on tile pedestals, or on a sand bed (or mortar bed), and that they are frost-resistant. They have rectified edges.
Reviews are good – apparently, the tile edges can be fragile during installation and may chip a bit. If you are aware of this, it might be manageable – after all, we are only covering a small area and don’t have to install 100 sqm (1,076 sq ft) in a rush.
However, our construction manager said that terrace tiles should be at least 4 cm (1.6 inch) thick.
What do you think? Has anyone had experience with such thin tiles? They are widely available in many DIY stores, so they don’t seem to be a total rarity. I just can’t imagine that they wouldn’t work at all...
THANK YOU!!!
Best regards, hemali2003

hemali20035 Jun 2017 11:36Oh, the dimensions are 90 x 45 cm (35 x 18 inches) – that is certainly relevant as well.
