Hi everyone,

We want to install a covering for our terrace. Unfortunately, there is a downpipe on one side—not aligned with the terrace edge, but about 60cm (24 inches) in front of it.

One option is to build the covering only up to the downpipe. This would cause no issues with the covering itself or the automated retractable sunshade installed directly underneath. However, this would leave about 60 to 70cm (24 to 28 inches) of the terrace uncovered, which we would prefer to avoid.

The second option is to extend the covering to the edge of the terrace. This is no problem structurally (the glass can be cut accordingly), but it complicates the sunshade. The sunshade could only extend in width up to the downpipe (meaning the covering would span the entire terrace, but not the sunshade), or it could start about 10cm (4 inches) away from the house wall, leaving a 10 to 15cm (4 to 6 inches) gap without sunshade under the covering. Neither option looks very good.

Has anyone encountered a similar issue or can suggest better solutions than the ones listed? Both solutions are less than ideal; unfortunately, the downpipe placement was not well planned.

Thanks for your advice.

There are many manufacturers. You would need to discuss that with him.

For example, if it’s one with many individual strips, he could make one strip shorter.

If the fabric covers the full width, the best solution would probably be to start the fabric only after the fallout.

Would it also be possible to reroute the downpipe? For example, to run it above the roof and then bring it down at the end of the terrace. It depends on where the drainage goes in that area. If necessary, the downpipe could also drain onto the glass roof and continue via its gutter/downpipe.
