Hello, we are currently considering whether to have our terrace paved flush with the ground level.

The deep blue person said it would be okay since a slope away from the house would be made, and a grate/drain directly in front of the doors.

I'm just worried that it won’t be waterproof, which is why I originally leaned towards a (less attractive) step solution.

What do you think?

Large glass sliding door in a new brick wall; construction site with soil outside.

If you mean a step down from the living room to the terrace: personally, I would never do that. However, a step from the terrace down to the lawn looks good to me.

I agree with Maria16. Only one step if it cannot be avoided. Otherwise, a step-free exit onto the terrace.

Step. Always have a step at every door. In case of heavy rain and storms or deep snow, this ensures you stay protected.

I would do it—or have done it—exactly the other way around. If the terrace drops by about 20cm (8 inches) all around first, that’s just not ideal...

At what height are the ventilation openings located in the brick facade?

Are the connections for the drainage channels near the patio doors?
The connections – at least with Aco – for 100mm (4 inch) PVC pipes run vertically downward, so they may need to be routed around the corner using corner elements before reaching the base slab. The corner elements from Aco are only available as plastic components rather than polymer concrete.

Sealing should be possible to create very well and durable with EPDM membranes and EPDM adhesive, or it may already be in place.
