Hello everyone,

We will soon decide how to build our terrace and driveway.

We have no ideas yet and are a bit in the dark.

Especially regarding the terrace... what would be the best option? (Costs?, Maintenance?, Durability?)

Best regards, Barossi

As I have already mentioned 3-4 times, no proper current substructure allows joint growth from below. The joint growth comes from above and is absolutely unavoidable. If there are no plants growing in the joints at a certain spot for you, there are other reasons (no light, constantly driven over by a car, etc.).

Where do the ants come from? If they are walking on top and entering the joints, that also has nothing to do with the substructure.

And I write that the only difference is the substructure....

Once there is vegetation and ants (sand), and once there is none (gravel)...

One has vegetation and ants (sand) and the other does not (crushed stone)...

I would also be more cautious here – a coincidence does not always imply causation; there may be several factors involved!

You’re basically saying:
I have a red car and a blue car. I had an accident with the red car, so every red car is bad.

As saruss already mentioned, there could be other reasons. Nothing grows from underneath for sure. The grass growing on the stones between the lawn clearly indicates that seeds have landed in the joints. Ants can also walk on paved surfaces, and the joints themselves are affected from above. They definitely don’t come from underneath.

No, I definitely did not write that. If you read it that way, I can only recommend that you read everything again carefully.

So – a few paving stones are already laid, and now I’m a bit uncertain. The row directly next to the house is made of granite – it also borders the paths and looks quite good.

But with this, we have three different "colors" at the house... on the other side, it separates the terrace from the house. Should we replace it or keep it as is? They are not fixed yet.
