There seems to be a huge variety of software available for generating bills of quantities. Which programs would you recommend for a simple single-family house?

Do you plan to handle the tendering process entirely on your own? By the way, there is no such thing as a “simple” single-family house.

As a non-professional, software won’t help you, since you likely don’t know which quantities, building materials, and work steps are needed. If you do know these, you can just create an Excel spreadsheet yourself.

Hi, I have a fair amount of knowledge in this area and am working with an architect. I would like to advance the project as much as possible myself, mainly for the enjoyment of it. So, which software would you recommend? Avaplan, ...? Regards

In that case, it doesn’t make any sense for you to create the tender yourself. You will definitely make mistakes, and the architect will have to review everything thoroughly anyway. But fine, that’s not my problem.

If you only need the tender and are not concerned with further awarding steps or cost control, just use the cheapest AVA software you can find. For a non-professional, nothing else is necessary, since you won’t be able to make use of more advanced features anyway.

None at all. For a "simple single-family house," the group of bidders you’ll get usually consists entirely of people who aren’t used to submitting their offers electronically. They read texts and drawings on paper, so you might as well contact them using paper as well.

Software won’t magically make you an expert—if you don’t have enough knowledge, the software can’t add it for you. I’ve been preparing tenders for almost thirty years; this is not a suitable area for amateurs. An orchestra symphony composed by a machine would sound like a ringtone. Don’t forget, it’s your and real money that you’re risking here.

There are always the same skeptics... as if there were some kind of lobby here...

I am planning with a local architect. I will also ask him about his preferred software, which I probably won’t want to afford. But this issue can probably be handled with GAEB. So, I will take care of getting an affordable AVA (tendering and cost control) software. Actually, that was the main reason for this thread—to get recommendations on this...
