Hello everyone,
Since we are currently building our semi-detached house but the neighboring lot has not been sold yet, we will probably have to temporarily insulate the wall facing the other house. What are your experiences with this? What are good and affordable options to handle this situation, considering that I will have to remove it later?
I was offered a reduced price of 600 euros for 2cm (0.8 inches) of mineral fiber insulation board type T for 133.5 m² (1,437 sq ft), and an additional cost of 4,500 euros for installing 10cm (4 inches) of rigid foam insulation boards with a thermal conductivity of 0.035 W/mK for the same area. That seems quite expensive, especially since I will need to dismantle everything again later, which will also cost several thousand euros.
Thanks for your advice.

The standard solution would usually be a building expansion joint, a 2 cm (0.8 inch) mineral fiber insulation board according to DIN 18, and then typically the neighboring house wall.

A colleague applied vacuum insulation panels to the exterior wall in such a case. These panels increase the wall thickness by only 2 cm (0.8 inches) but provide insulation performance equivalent to 16 cm (6.3 inches) of polystyrene foam.

On top of this, a thin layer of plaster is applied, and up to the marked boundary, there is an additional 2 cm (0.8 inches) of mineral-based sound insulation, which would only be installed when the neighboring building is constructed. Overall, this approach has the advantage that the building is fully insulated from the start and, even if the neighboring building is offset, no thermal bridges can occur. Including the plaster, it requires only about 4 cm (1.6 inches) of total depth compared to nearly 20 cm (7.9 inches) with conventional external thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS / EIFS).

The downside is the cost of the panels, which are about 80 euros per square meter.

Additionally, this method provides independence from whether, how, or when the neighbor will build.

What do you think about not using any insulation? Instead, applying a reinforcing mesh with bonding adhesive on the exterior sand-lime brick wall, maybe also adding a coat of paint. We definitely don't want to insulate since the building will only be used for a maximum of 2 years...
