ᐅ Telephone connection and/or cable connection

I am currently considering this. Since nowadays you can watch TV via internet connection (IPTV), I am thinking about choosing either option.

Now the question about monthly costs. Has anyone calculated this by any chance and can give a recommendation?

For the cable connection, do I have to pay an additional monthly fee for the connection on top of the cable provider’s charges for TV/phone/internet?

Best regards

To my knowledge, Telekom does as well. However, I didn’t look into it further because we found a different solution.

I have now checked the prices (digging was needed anyway for electricity/water):
Unitymedia costs EUR 408.50 (when signing up for 2Play) and Telekom costs the already mentioned EUR 399 (costs are the same with or without a contract). Without a contract, Unitymedia would have cost around EUR 800.
In my opinion, well spent money if both connections are installed.

Why use a phone line when you have cables available? I would have skipped it... you can always install one later if you really need it.

Telekom, as mentioned before, costs 399.00
Kabel Deutschland 599.00 with contract
As far as I know, the TV contract is still somewhat discounted.

Well – on one hand, you are more flexible.
If cable causes problems for some reason (you occasionally hear about persistent issues), you can switch.
If Vodafone (which bought Kabel Deutschland) decides to raise prices unreasonably, you can still look for an alternative (Telekom, 1&1, or whoever).

On the other hand – if you ever want to sell your house, you can offer the potential buyer both options (possibly increasing the property value).

Installing later if needed:
If the ground is already dug up anyway, you might as well use it now. Retrofitting later will be considerably more expensive.
However – and this is an argument in favor of installing later: then you would have a modern cable installed.

Do you have any idea what it costs to tear up a finished front yard, driveway, or paved street just for a simple telecom connection? In comparison, the 399 € is just “peanuts.” If necessary, I can cancel Unitymedia (or simply go without internet or phone) and rely on a phone provider. As f-pNo wrote, it’s also an investment that increases the value of the house. If I’m spending half a million on a house (or whatever the amount) and take care of every little detail, then 399 € isn’t really a big deal 😉

Well, I would have installed a conduit, so there would be hardly any need to break anything open.

And increased value? You probably don’t really believe anyone would pay for that later in any way 😉..

Besides, I hope fiber optic connection will be available in 20 years anyway, so you can just install it again then.
