ᐅ Telecom FTTH – What Is Needed?

Hello everyone!
In the next few weeks, our FTTH connection will be activated by the telecom provider.

I received a fiber optic router from an acquaintance. It is not from the telecom provider!!

Unfortunately, I can’t find any option in the configuration to enter login credentials...

With FTTH technology, does the router automatically authenticate itself?
Or will the router not work with the telecom provider’s connection?

The router is a Genexis Platinum-7840 fiber optic router.

It's like talking to a wall... No one has FTTH at home but they keep talking about it like crazy.
Well, I think the original poster understands that there isn’t really any alternative to the Telekom modem, and not every router works with it either.

Well, I think the original poster understands that there is absolutely no alternative to the Telekom modem, and not every router will work.

That’s as far as I understood. I will order the Fritzbox 7530 and that’s it.

Alternatives do exist (theoretically), but they are very rare and definitely not suitable for the average user. Since I currently don’t have a fiber optic connection, I can’t test this myself and am therefore still waiting for the first success report on this matter.

Regarding router compatibility, almost all routers that support PPPoE should work in practice, but due to potentially required advanced configurations, this might not be a viable option for all standard users.

As I mentioned: I would rather consider a router without Wi-Fi and instead strategically place access points — or just turn off Wi-Fi on the Fritzbox, but then you wouldn’t really need to pay (expensively) for it in the first place.

PPPoE-capable routers work

Exactly, you’re right, but for example, the OP’s router doesn’t seem to support that.
From my experience about a year ago, not all routers work with PPPoE, for instance some of the smaller Fritzbox models—but what exactly they lack (?)

They actually lack nothing—at most, the option to configure necessary VLAN tags through the graphical web interface. However, this might already be too technical for most people here.
