Hello everyone,

We had both a Telekom and a cable connection installed in our house. Originally, I had chosen the cable connection for internet and phone service, but I would now like to change that due to new contracts and terms from Unitymedia.

Both companies offer a discounted house connection if you sign a contract with them directly, with Telekom charging €398 instead of €598, and Unitymedia €550 instead of €900. Unitymedia has already charged me €550 with the note that I should order the cable connection by the end of May; otherwise, the remaining amount will be invoiced.

Shortly before that, I received the bill for the Telekom connection (6 months after installation *g*) for €598, and on the phone, they told me that the discount applies only when ordering a Telekom connection.

So now I have a few questions for those with experience:
Was it the same for you?
Are there deadlines for the connection?
Who is best to order the connection from (online or in-store) and what additional documents do I need to submit?

Before I speak with 25 Telekom agents who don’t know anything, I’d rather ask how it has worked for others *g*.

Thank you!

I’m missing some information here, or rather, I’m a bit confused: Did you have cable connections installed by both Telekom and Unitymedia? Or did you get a phone line from Telekom and a cable connection from Unitymedia? What exactly do you mean by “in case of a contract with them yourself,” or does it not matter what kind of contract it is?

We also have the DSL connection via cable from Unitymedia and are very satisfied with it, but we don’t have a cable subscription. We have the physical cable for sure, but not what is commonly understood as a cable subscription—that is, a contract for about 20 euros for watching TV via cable. This can be ordered separately from Unitymedia.

I also find the term “Telekom connection” a bit confusing. Do you mean just the phone line, or does it have to be a package? And why did you order two connections?

Since both have already been set up and canceling is probably not an option, I would try to go with the cheapest option where discounts apply but you don’t end up paying more than necessary. For example, a phone line from Telekom and DSL via cable from Unitymedia. Although I still don’t quite understand why both now… please explain.

OK, that was probably phrased a bit confusingly. It’s purely about the combined phone/internet contracts from Telekom and Unitymedia. TV is via satellite. I wanted to have both connections installed anyway.

Originally, I planned to go with the Unitymedia bundle contract, but with the new contracts and technical changes on both sides, I now want to take Telekom’s contract.

Originally, Unitymedia was planned, which is why I was quoted the discounted house connection fees there. Telekom told me that these fees are credited when signing a new contract, and I wanted to ask if that is really the case and what I need to keep in mind.

Costs are less of an issue; I rely on speed and certain technical requirements that UM simply can no longer provide or that Telekom now offers better.

P.S.: DSL over cable is not available SCNR

In my opinion, this is a clear case: you have ordered both connections anyway and were offered a discount on the condition that you sign a contract. So, you receive the discount from the provider with whom you also sign the contract, and you will have to pay the full price for the other connection.

That is clear, it’s not an issue for me to pay the missing 350€ to UM, and that’s how they do it. If I don’t subscribe to a UM plan by the end of May, the invoice will be issued automatically.

What I would like to know first (to simplify the question) is the following: Have other builders also been initially charged the full 598€ for the Telekom house connection, with the 200€ discount credited only after signing a plan?

Oh, right, probably already, that’s how it works with mobile phone or other cable contracts as well.
In any case, it should be documented clearly in writing somewhere, and then it doesn’t really matter...
