Hello everyone,
We are currently planning our house. My idea is to place the utility room with the gas boiler, ventilation system, washing machine, dryer, electrical panel, etc., on the upper floor.
Our house will be built without a basement, and since we want a double garage, it will be integrated into the house. This way, we would have more space on the ground floor, and I wouldn’t have to design the utility room too small.
Thank you very much!
Best regards,

As an outsider, I have a question for those who have the washer and dryer on the upper floor:
How do you handle drying laundry in the summer? Do you also use the dryer instead of hanging clothes outside on the garden clothesline?
And what about noise disturbance in the bedrooms? (For example, when the kids are already asleep in the evening, but you still need to dry or wash clothes for the next day) Wouldn’t it make more sense not to have the appliances right next door?
Do you iron and fold the clothes upstairs in the bedroom or somewhere else?
From my experience, dry laundry is often ironed and folded in the living area. Otherwise, for example, the kids play in the living room while the mother is alone upstairs working?
What are your experiences?I hate the sight of drying racks, even when they’re empty, and I don’t want to impose that on my neighbors either.
In summer, a load of laundry usually goes onto a portable drying rack, which often changes location. I’ve also had bad experiences with drying laundry flat.
The washer and dryer are placed side by side in a small utility room of about 3sqm (32 sq ft) on the upper floor. You can hear the washing machine during spinning, but the dryer is barely audible.
Yes, folding and ironing are done in the bedroom, where there is also a TV for distraction.
We don’t have children, but if we did, they could be watched while ironing in their bedrooms upstairs — the living room doesn’t need to be cluttered with laundry chores.
