It concerns a crack in a room ceiling. However, this ceiling is covered with a paper-like material that was then painted white. This "paper" or fabric has torn.

Thank you very much for the response. The word is "biasi" in Georgian, but that probably doesn’t help much. In any case, it is a classic multi-story building, the story is set around 1960, a subway is being constructed underneath the building, and the walls are developing cracks. At one point, it says: this "bsari" is cracked—as seen in the photo from the film related to the book. Perhaps it really is something as simple as wallpaper? Ceiling wallpaper? Or a painter’s fleece?
