Hello everyone.
I would like to remove a wall to increase living space. I know someone in construction who has some experience, at least with demolition. But how do you handle electrical cables and telephone sockets that are located inside that wall? The telephone socket definitely needs to be relocated. Should the electrical cable just be stripped at the end?
There are no building plans or circuit diagrams available. So, would you actually need an electrician?

If a beam has to be installed because it’s a load-bearing wall, that could become quite expensive, right?

I wouldn’t have brought in a structural engineer or an electrician and would handle everything myself. Removing a wall is probably not difficult. You just need to watch out for the cables that are inside. Afterwards, you arrange the cables as you want. You might need to extend the cables.

It really depends on what kind of wall it is. If it is a load-bearing wall, you can’t just start hammering away.

Finding the cables is easy (there are tools for detecting them). They need to be removed first, and then you can begin.

Unless the wall is load-bearing... in that case, you must work with supports only!

Wouldn't you rather hire a professional?
