ᐅ Take old/previous furniture to the new house or start completely fresh?

When I see photos of interior furnishings of houses here in the forum, I often get the impression, "Oh, everything looks so nice and new." Does anyone also bring old/previous furniture with them, or is almost everything replaced? My husband and I will be taking all our old/previous furniture with us. Is that still common nowadays, or is it considered strange in some way?

Priority is the garden for now. That sounds like unrestrained excitement for the outdoor area! 😎

We took everything with us because everything in the apartment had been newly purchased before.
Additionally:
New kitchen, but appliances from the old one. The old kitchen found a place in the garage as a workbench.
One child’s room furnished new. Baby room furniture sold.
We are taking our kitchen with us.
We initially bought it for 5,000 and later expanded it for 6,000, totaling 11,000.
If we were to design a new one now, it would cost around 15,000. Still a 9,000 difference that you need to have upfront.

That was our situation. The old one cost 9,700 EUR and was extended for 11,000 EUR. It still annoys me today.

We bought everything new, but there were quite pragmatic reasons for that:
- Our living space increased fivefold.
- The old furniture (all Ikea) dated back to university days and was quite shaky and scratched from frequent moves. Taking it apart again wouldn’t have held up well anyway.
- Much of it was fixed or screwed in place.
- We sold our old apartment fully furnished, including the TV.
In the weeks before the move, we already set up the new furniture, so when the actual moving day came, it all happened within one day.
Packed up, loaded two cars to the roof, unpacked, and then went to sleep. The next morning, we started the new chapter without boxes or chaos.

We will take most of it with us. Hopefully the kitchen will stay in the apartment, it fits perfectly here and it would be a shame if the next tenant didn’t take it over for a fair price.
Otherwise, the guest bed will have to go, as well as a Besta, since it doesn’t fit anywhere suitable. Eventually, the Pax will be replaced, and we can finally go back to the taller version.
