I am planning a Swedish stove for our dream house and have a few questions on the topic. I read that a switch must be installed on the window so that the exhaust hood can only be turned on when it is open. Is that correct? Does it make a difference for the exhaust hood whether it is ducted or recirculating? Is the switch already connected to the window when delivered, or do I need to handle that myself, such as drilling holes and laying cables?

MODERATOR11 Aug 2012 23:01In very tightly built new houses, this can (theoretically) become problematic if the range hood extracts air and no fresh air flows in, for example through open windows. It is best to ask the manufacturer or seller of the appliance about this.
You need to install the range hood yourself or, better yet, have it installed by an electrician. However, such a switch is usually not included with the range hood.

Richard-11 Mar 2015 14:44Hello,
I have also installed a Swedish stove like this one before. The switch was not included and I had to order it separately. This switch needs to be installed near the window. The purpose is to prevent negative air pressure, which could cause toxic gases to enter the room. This window contact switch should only be activated when the window is open.
