nils1985Hello,
We want to install a kitchen with an island in our new house. What is the best way to route the electrical supply to the kitchen island? The problem is that the connection point is located on the opposite wall in the room. Additionally, the floor structure including underfloor heating is already installed, but the screed over the underfloor heating is still missing.
How can I get electricity to my kitchen island?
I also have a general question. Is it generally possible to lay cables along the wall within the screed? I would like to install a home network and need to run some CAT7 cables for that.
Best regards

Also, the floor structure including the underfloor heating is already installed. What’s missing is the screed on top of the underfloor heating. The proper way would be to partially and temporarily remove the underfloor heating, lay the cables within the insulation, close the insulation carefully, then install the vapor barrier, the underfloor heating, and finally the screed. What is the full structure of the ceiling and floor? What is above the ceiling?Cooking on the island, in my opinion, also requires a power supply line for a cooker hood. I would install that line even if you currently plan to have a cooker hood in the island or even no extractor at all.

Is it generally possible to run cables along the wall inside the screed? According to standards, no. Cables should either be installed below the screed within the insulation layer with some distance from the wall, or in the structural ceiling, or... You could install suitable baseboard ducts or channels later. Home network cables belong inside empty conduits if you plan to run them inside the floor structure or within the wall plaster.I, on the other hand, would consider whether cooking on the island is really necessary. To be honest, I find it unnecessary frills that seem to have become popular since cooking shows appeared. A dedicated work island makes much more sense when you consider how much time is spent on preparations compared to the actual cooking process. Another point to keep in mind is that island hoods/ceiling exhaust fans are more expensive than wall-mounted hoods. Just a suggestion.
