ᐅ Sun protection for sloped gable windows

Dear forum,

For our new build, large floor-to-ceiling window fronts are planned on both gable ends, which should also fit the roof slope in the attic.

The first offers for the external blinds on the sloped gable windows, however, exceed the budget significantly.

Does anyone have experience with this or know of alternative solutions?

I had already suspected or heard that. Do you have any personal experience with this?

Well, personal experience—I worked as an engineer for the market leader in these types of products until a few years ago, so I think you could say I have some experience 🙂.

I completely understand you and would probably want to do it the way you suggest… Still, from a practical standpoint, I would almost certainly prefer a solution that looks just as good but is less problematic.
I have a nice example from a nearby show home complex; the house looks really good, and I don’t think the external venetian blind setup would be noticed negatively in everyday use:

Two-story house with large glass facade, wooden cladding, balcony and terrace with table and chairs

And for the upper glazing, there would certainly be attractive and discreet interior shading or even blackout options for your children’s rooms (direct sunlight will likely be quite limited here, as you suspected).

That looks very interesting! Thank you! How large is the roof overhang on that model home? And where is it located? It looks great!
How are the venetian blinds implemented there? That might also be an option for us.

I had mistakenly posted an outdated view of our house façade. The current version looks like this:

Modern two-story house front with large glass façade, wood cladding, and pitched roof.

This is the new model house by Regnauer in Fellbach, called Klara. Just visit their website, and you’ll find this house along with several others built in a similar style (regarding the windows). You can also see older model houses by them with angled exterior blinds like the ones you actually want. You might think they intentionally moved away from the angled version in their newer houses 😉.

I’m not sure about the roof overhang. How the blinds are installed? Zoom into the picture, and you’ll see the guide rails running vertically into the horizontal panel. It’s really straightforward, easy to plan and install. And the look, in my opinion, is great! (The whole house turned out really beautiful, even though I’m not usually a big fan of wood.)

In your case, the beam is just narrower, but I’m sure you can still find a solution together with the window manufacturer.

I just remembered that I once had the plans for the Regnauer house shown to me, and just in case, I took photos of them :p. Although the roof overhang isn't shown directly here, the balcony depth is measured at 1.25m (4 feet). If you look again at the exterior photo, that should roughly correspond to the roof overhang… 😎

And to avoid one-sided promotion, here is the Baufritz model house, also in Fellbach 😀. I still had a similar image in mind, and it can also be found on the website.

Also a lot of wood used, but also a great house! The bathroom really impressed me back then, with beautiful tiles that must have influenced me subconsciously, because months later we chose tiles at a tile showroom which, as we later found out, are exactly the same tiles from this model house 😀. (By the way, there is also a YouTube video by Hausbau Helden about this model house.)

A brief off-topic remark, but the architecture and the external blinds solution are quite similar to the Regnauer house 🙂.
