Hello "shade experts"!

We are planning to install a shading system on our terrace (see attached photos) that should protect not only from the sun but also from light rain. Both features are very important to us, and we do not want to settle for a "cheap product." The requirements are as follows:

  • The shading element should cover approximately 30m² (about 323 ft²), with an extension of around 6m (20 ft) and a width of about 5m (16 ft).
  • The system should be based on a track rail system – so not an awning with folding arms, but a system with rails. We could build four laminated timber beams or aluminum supports ourselves on-site, or even better, a complete system that already includes the supports.
  • It should be priced under 8,000€.
  • The product should be available in Austria.

There is an additional requirement that unfortunately cannot be avoided due to the existing structure. As shown in the picture "Schnitt Terrasse.jpg," we have a chimney directly on the terrace that runs from the ground floor up to the upper floor where the terrace is located. This stainless steel chimney pipe (not a masonry chimney) needs to be mounted somehow onto the support struts that the shading system runs on and secured against wind. The chimney pipe thus also forms the outer boundary of the shading system.

Do you have experience with specific brands? Is there a brand you would recommend that offers good quality for the price? Which features or characteristics are particularly important to consider when purchasing? I have heard that seams in fabrics are often of poor quality, allowing rainwater to leak through quickly.

We have already looked into the company Hella and their Tenda Plus system but have not been able to compare it with other manufacturers yet, so we are unsure whether the Tenda Plus system is a good choice or not.

We would appreciate your recommendations and tips!

Best regards,
Luke
