-drago-Hello community,
I would like to build a sports and equipment room using sandwich panels, and I’m hoping you can provide some suggestions and tips.
The planned structure will be approximately 3.5m x 6.5m (11.5 ft x 21 ft) on a paved area (previously a garden shed was located here). A partition wall will separate the equipment room at 2m (6.5 ft), and each room will have its own door. No windows are planned. The roof will be either a mono-pitched or flat roof with a slight overhang (about 100cm (40 inches)?) to allow dry storage of firewood. H-post anchors with pad foundations will be used for the beams.
I still have the following questions:
- Construction: I want to build with wood
- What thickness should the beams have? 70x70 mm (3 x 3 inches)?
- At what intervals should the beams be spaced for the walls and roof (every meter)? We hardly have any snow load here in the north.
- What type of insulation for the panels is recommended? I was thinking about 40 or 60 mm (1.5 or 2.4 inches) for walls and roof. The building will not be heated and heating is not necessary. The previous garden shed also had no heating (even in winter).
- Should the sandwich panels be installed vertically or horizontally? I have seen both options—is it just a matter of preference?
- Do I need a drip edge at the bottom?
- Do I need a sealing tape between the frame and the panels?
- Should expansion gaps be left between the panels? I read about 10–20 mm (0.4–0.8 inches) gaps to be filled with foam?
