Stockheim26 Oct 2017 12:57Hello everyone,
is it possible to install electrical components in external thermal insulation composite systems (ETICS) afterwards?
Specifically, I would like to integrate a flush-mounted video intercom system into our insulation. The power cable is already in place and protrudes from the insulation.
I have found some universal device carriers from Kaiser, but I wonder how to cleanly cut out entire blocks from the insulation.
Regards

From what I have read from Kaiser, the equipment carrier is usually screwed onto the wall below the external thermal insulation composite system (ETICS). So, you would have to cut away the ETICS right down to the wall.
Although we considered all connections and so on during the construction of our house, it doesn’t bother me that I have to install the video intercom surface-mounted. A year ago, during the house planning, I unfortunately did not think about whether it should be surface-mounted or flush-mounted :-( Only that the necessary cables have to be installed there.

Stockheim26 Oct 2017 14:11I believe it is 10cm (5 inches) EIFS insulation – I should check the documents at home this evening. It concerns a Bien-Zenker KFW 55 wall.
The depth of the component is maybe 5cm (2 inches). The GOLIATH video unit itself is 32mm (1.3 inches) deep, and there is also a flush-mounted box, although no exact measurements could be found on the website.

Hello Stockheim,
I’m getting the same video door intercom from Goliath. The flush-mounted box is 58 mm deep (2.3 inches), about 12.5 cm wide (5 inches), and about 11 cm high (4.3 inches).
Here’s how I did it: I determined the height, held the flush-mounted box against the wall with the external wall insulation system (EWIS), and marked the outline. Then I cut out roughly 6 cm (2.4 inches) with a utility knife, checking the depth of the opening repeatedly with the flush-mounted box. After that, I fixed it in place using foam for the EWIS, making sure to use a spirit level. It holds rock solid.
Best regards
