Is it possible to give or state a flat rate for structural engineer costs? Based on what factors could the structural engineering fees be calculated? Who has experience with this?

Looking forward to your answers!

That makes handling a lot easier. But don’t forget, services for structural engineering, energy saving regulations, KfW standards, thermal insulation, etc. are not free.

Hello, I’m probably just misunderstanding how to calculate the fee using the HOAI calculator. What exactly are the eligible costs and the surcharge? I’m a bit puzzled because the architect, including the structural engineer, presented a flat fee (an offer, not an explicit contract) of €9,900 gross, and since I know that the fee partly depends on the total construction cost, I’m somewhat surprised that they didn’t directly ask how much this amount is.

Thanks in advance

you provided some more details about your new build. When I enter these data into the HOAI calculator—without adding any surcharges or extras—I get a gross amount of €9,158.94 for service phases 1 to 4. So your architect’s offer is fine.

He doesn’t need to ask *directly* for the construction costs; he can calculate that himself.

Hello building expert,

Great that you supported me with this, but I can’t even write about it yet, because unfortunately this is the net amount and not the gross amount as I originally specified. Also, another silly question: Does the architect’s service including the structural engineer’s, as in my quote, always cover up to the submission of the application to the building authority (building permit / planning permission)? In the quote I have, the following services are listed without further details (deadline...):

Preliminary design, building application, structural calculation, fire protection proof for building components, energy calculation and energy certificate according to Energy Saving Ordinance 2016 (not an energy-efficient house), reinforcement plans for the following components: upper layer of the corner above the ground floor including lintel reinforcement, ring beam each including steel and bending schedules, triplicate copies plus delivery of the building application plans, statics and reinforcement plans including steel schedules in digital form as PDFs.

Thank you very much for your feedback.
Greetings from the capital

Why don’t you ask your architect to explain the offer in detail? There should definitely be enough time for that. The HOAI fees are usually given as a range from - to. This way, your architect can clearly explain where he charges less and where he expects more effort or costs.

"Usually," the architect and the structural engineer are two separate service providers.

You should follow the recommendation of the previous poster and ask your architect for clarification.

If this leads to a temporary collaboration, all details of the discussions should of course be recorded in writing and in detail.
