Hello everyone,

I have absolutely no knowledge about roofs.
The roof was installed back in 1990 / 1991 by a professional company, according to the standards valid at that time.

Until today, there was never a problem, even with strong winds.
However, yesterday, Tuesday, there was a severe storm with heavy rain, thunderstorm, the whole package.

From the outside, the roof is still watertight and in good condition.
Nevertheless, on one side without windows, the interior ceiling collapsed. This ceiling is made of wooden panels with a cavity between the roof and the interior ceiling. The panels are mounted on wooden battens. The ceiling bent completely outward and practically tore off from the fastening.

Tomorrow, an insurance assessor will take a look, but of course, I am wondering how this could have happened.
From the outside, everything appears fine. Even the roofer I called was speechless.

Do you have any idea how this is possible?
There have been storms before, and nothing like this ever happened.

Best regards,
Sebastian

Matching suction effect?! I can’t imagine anything else.
Who knows how unstable the ceiling already was before.

The ceiling seemed fine from my perspective; there were no signs that it was unstable.
The ceiling was installed in 2011 and has always held up.

Suction effect caused by what?
I’m trying to imagine how that could be possible.

I should mention that the property is rented.
Could this have been caused by an open roof window or gable window?
The storm was really severe.

The assessor can tell you. You are allowed to question them thoroughly, and they will certainly explain the reason once they determine the cause.
