Hello everyone,

Our future house has a cold roof. Since only certain items should be stored there, we want to get special storage boxes that provide protection against external temperature fluctuations as well as moisture. Regular plastic boxes that we already have are not very suitable for this purpose. Can you recommend any specific boxes that you use yourselves?

So I just checked our current basement again. We would like to store the following in the cold roof space:

  • Christmas decorations and closed storage boxes
  • Cardboard boxes
  • Suitcases
  • Clothing in closed storage boxes
  • Books
  • Furniture
  • TV stands
  • Wrapping paper
  • Blankets
  • Small items

I haven’t received a quote from our drywall contractor yet. I’m curious to see how much the whole thing will cost.

Hello everyone,

We will probably get a garden shed from Biohort (made of aluminum). The roof and floor will be insulated. The garden shed has ventilation slots at the very top. Shouldn't this then behave similarly to a cold roof in terms of temperatures?

I’m not sure if this was mentioned in this thread, but I think it was also noted that insulating or finishing a cold roof isn’t always a good idea because of air exchange and mold issues or something along those lines? I can’t recall the details, but the argument seemed convincing to me.

Wrapping paper in the garden shed. Now it’s getting adventurous.

I can’t remember the details exactly, but the reasoning seemed plausible to me.

It’s important to install the vapor barrier correctly for that to work. I’ve also read that here on the forum.

So far, we’ve kept it in a lockable box. In the future, we will store it elsewhere. But that unfortunately doesn’t answer my question about whether a garden shed or an insulated roof—which would be a cold roof—is better.

If you don’t have a basement, you just have to get creative.

Have you found a suitable "climate box" for temperature-sensitive items? I'm also considering how to reduce temperature fluctuations for storage items in the cold roof space.
